Spring Auroral Odyssey
Lead by a renowned Astronomer and Solar System Specialist, our March 3 - 9, 2013 guided program has been specifically designed for those who are curious about the Aurora Borealis, who wish to view and photograph its splashes of color, and those who want to experience one of nature's most unique phenomena. Our independent programs provide similar oportunities and can be arranged to fit your schedule.

We begin with a survey of Yellowknife, capital of the Northwest Territories, and then fly by chartered ski plane to a remote Arctic lodge located north of Great Slave Lake. Far removed from viewing inhibitors, such as city lights, this location provides the best opportunity to experience the Northern Lights in full splendor – the curtains of color that are the “Piece de Resistance.”

Hear nightly lectures focused on understanding the Aurora phenomenon and other astronomical mysteries, such as how the Universe began, what is beyond the edge if the Universe is not infinite, and what the future may hold. Afterward, explore the heavens, its planets, constellations, and distant stars, and behold in wonder and photograph the infinitely changing Aurora Borealis.

During the day, enjoy a wide range of winter recreation alternatives, as well as unique cultural and ecological learning experiences. You will have a menu of active pursuits from which to choose, including dog sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, snow-shelter/igloo building, and ice fishing. A warm fire by which to relax and a luxurious hot tub are always available
